Rain delay, short game but most importantly a WIN!

45 minutes to get the job done… and we did. Five goals, three points and off to the Southern Conference playoffs we go!

The Villages SC won 5-0 against IMG Academy our final home game of the season at The Villages Polo Club. Needing three points to ensure the playoff spot everyone was pumped up. We had lost our previous game versus IMG during the season so we need to do everything in our power because it meant the possible end of the season.

The weather began to turn dark and pretty soon lighting. The game was delayed for over one hour. Our staff was concerned about the time as our fields do not have lights. We needed to play at least half of the game to count as an official result and as the minutes passed everyone grew a little more anxious. Once we got the “go ahead” from the referee coach Andeson made sure to tell the players that the game might only go on for a half so they had to play as if the whole game was 45 minutes. It worked as the first goal came with just 4 minutes into the game and at halftime, the score was 4×0. Halftime was cut short (just as the pre-game ceremony) and with 17 minutes of the second half, the game was called as complete and the final score was 5×0.

The win put us to the top of the standings pending the SIMA Aguilas game the next game with the possibility of our team still be Southeast Division Champions. But no matter the result of that game our spot on the 2018 Southern Conference was confirmed and we would go on to play another game. WE ARE THE BUFFALO!
