The 105th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer’s National Championship, kicks off May 9 and features a total of 94 participating teams from all levels of American soccer. The tournament will see a tiered bracket and eight rounds of single-elimination play until a champion is crowned in September 2018.
Premier Development League will have 20 member clubs feature in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Yours truly is among the 20. This will be our 3rd year participating in this prestigious competition.
Our first year, 2016, we were disqualified (after winning against the Charleston Battery) for “fielding a cup-tied player” and our argument at that time was that we had no database, no way of checking the status of every player. This year the tournament has provided a list. They still require that we do our homework but now we have something to go by.
First-round pairings will be announced on April 4.
